A 5-year-old mansion overlooking the James River near the Route 288 bridge is up for grabs.
Visible from the bridge and just downriver from Benedictine College Prep and Saint Gertrude High School, the house at 265 Pembroke Court was listed last week with an asking price of $6.95 million.
Pam Diemer with Long & Foster has the listing and is representing the sellers, listed in Goochland County property records as Alan and Misty Jones.
Alan Jones owns Prince George Ag, an agricultural freight brokerage based in Petersburg. He previously was president of local trucking company Abilene Motor Express, according to a LinkedIn page.
The Joneses purchased the 4-acre lot in 2018 from Robert Chesson, a local developer who also has worked with Diemer over the years. Diemer, who did not return a call seeking comment Thursday, previously listed the 28-acre Starwood estate for Chesson when he put it up for sale five years ago.
Records show the Joneses paid $725,000 for the Pembroke land, and the house was built in 2020. Goochland assessed the property the following year at $3.2 million. It’s currently assessed at $4.5 million.
Totaling 12,700 square feet, the stone-and-brick house sits on a bluff and is lined with rear terraces, decks and screened porches overlooking the river. It has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and three half-baths across three levels.
Built by Dunkum Custom Homes and designed by Ensminger Architecture, both local firms, the house is accented with cathedral-style beamed ceilings and multiple floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces, including in the living room and primary suite.
Each bedroom has its own bathroom, and the kitchen includes a folding door system to open it up to the outdoors. The lower level includes a bar and another stone fireplace, as well as a rec room, gym and office.
The property also includes a guest apartment, two three-car garages, a tractor garage, an elevator, security vault, outdoor lighting and gas lanterns. The river side of the property also includes a hardscaped firepit area.
Located within the Pembroke on the James gated community off River Road, the house is one of five that line the river on the bluff immediately east of Benedictine and Saint Gertrude. Closest to the school is 301 Riverside Court, a 7,500-square-foot house that changed hands in 2018 for $1.5 million, two years after it was listed at $2.4 million.
The Pembroke listing is among the highest seen in the Richmond market this year. Last month, the nearly 10,000-square-foot house at 203 Randolph Square Lane, in Goochland’s Randolph Square community just north of the Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course, was listed at $5.5 million.
Farther east along the river, a mystery buyer paid $9 million in April for a 143-acre tract at 8703 River Road, immediately east of the Roslyn Retreat Center in Henrico.
