Foxtail Coffee Co. planning second local shop, this time in Midlothian

After planting its flag in Short Pump last year, an out-of-town coffee shop chain has set its sights on Midlothian for its second local outpost.

Foxtail Coffee Co. is planning to open in The Promenade at Winterfield development this fall, according to company spokeswoman Beth Cocchiarella.

The 1,800-square-foot café at 1500 Ewing Park Loop would join local neighborhood market concept Supper Club, which opened in The Promenade earlier this year, as well as other tenants in the mixed-use development in the western part of the county. Foxtail would operate across Midlothian Turnpike from a 7 Brew, a drive-thru coffee concept.

The Midlothian Foxtail would be the company’s second coffee shop in the Richmond region, following the opening of its store at the West Broad Village center in Short Pump last November.

Founded in 2016, Foxtail has nearly 100 locations either open or planned in its home state of Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan and Nevada, according to the company’s website.

Foxtail sells espresso and cold-brew coffee, as well as teas, baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. The company, which franchises its concept, roasts its own coffee at its flagship location near Orlando.

The Short Pump location was Foxtail’s first in the Old Dominion. Cocchiarella said the company planned to further expand in Virginia and is in the site-selection process, but didn’t share more details about those plans.

In other local coffee news, Surrounding Counties reopened in a new location in March after closing near Freeman High School in 2024, and Norfolk-based Coalescence Coffee Co. is planning a cafe in downtown Richmond.
